To Apply
Filling out this form is the first step towards a partnership. (We’re a small but mighty team with a real commitment to work life balance. For this reason, filling out the form is the only way to be considered for the contract.)
Services Needed
Contract Goal: You’ll confidently manage our new business proposal process – writing proposals for potential clients and helping our team save time and win business.
Primary Point of Contact: This contractor role reports to Niki Juhasz, VP of Marketing and New Business.
Overview of Duties: You’ll lead the proposal process, from writing to submission. You’ll project manage the process by drafting proposals, scoping projects and keeping our new business submission project status tracker up to date. You’ll ensure every proposal matches the RFP requirements.
Services Overview
The ideal human for this project is self-motivated and can work independently with little to no oversight on assigned new business projects. You’ll excel at keeping track of (and constantly prioritizing!) multiple tasks at once, without dropping the ball. Our dream coordinator is proactive, enterprising and solution-oriented.
NOTE: We need a proactive coordinator who checks in daily when working on a proposal with us to maintain our new business tracker and ensure all proposals are submitted on time.
Project Management & Operations
You’ll create a project plan for each proposal, which includes dedicating time on Forthright staff’s calendar to review and approve the proposal and scoping.
You’ll lead business tasks (checking in during Forthright’s business hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET, Monday - Friday).
You’ll keep our new business tracker up to date.
Proposal Coordination & Research
Before you prepare a proposal, you’ll review notes from new business calls and discuss the project vision with the VP, as needed.
You’ll compile new business call prep documents and conduct research to align proposals closely with client needs and RFP requirements.
You will handle the scoping and pricing of projects using internal software tools.
Drafting & Layout
You’ll write the first, complete draft of every new business proposal using a combination of internal AI tools, call notes, RFP requirements and your own expertise.
You’ll lay out beautiful, easy-to-scan proposals, including crafting the cover page and creating graphics, as-needed, using plug-and-play existing tools. (You do not need to be a designer or have any design skills to succeed.)
You’ll edit proposals based on client requests.
Required Experience & Qualifications
Ideally three or more years of experience drafting winning new business proposals and leading successful new business processes
Proven ability to dissect complex RFPs, extract the exact deliverables needed, and ensure 100% compliance in the final proposal
Impeccable writing and copy editing abilities
Demonstrated experience in maintaining brand integrity through copy; must be able to use Forthright’s brand guidelines and produce/edit high-quality content using our brand voice.
Authorized to work in the United States
Knowledge of online calendars and scheduling tools (specific focus on Google Suite)
Experience with and comfort using AI tools (We use Gemini for Google Workplace.)
Comfort using plug-and-play design tools (like Canva, PowerPoint, Google Slides, or similar software) to build clean, beautiful and easy-to-scan documents
Excellent phone, email and Slack communication skills, asking questions and clarifying details when needed
Basic math skills for timesheets and project budgets
Highly organized and able to multitask and work well with fast-paced directions and instructions
Able to anticipate the needs of others in order to ensure their seamless and positive experience
Able to manage time effectively and efficiently
Able to organize, manage and maintain large amounts of files, tasks, schedules and information
About You
You want to make the world a better place for kids. You’re a proposal coordinator who is excited about working with a fun, smart startup team – and are passionate about simply making life (and the new business process!) easier for our team. If you get a rush from turning a blank page into a beautifully formatted proposal and never let a detail slip through the cracks, you’re exactly who we’re looking for.
You’ll thrive as a valued part of our team if:
You eat tight deadlines for breakfast. The words “deadline in three days” don't send you into a panic; they snap you into focus. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and know how to ruthlessly prioritize when multiple tasks land on your desk at once.
You’ve got impeccably high standards for yourself. You have an incredible attention to detail and intolerance for errors. Mistakes happen, of course, but you fail gracefully and with humor.
Continual improvement is your jam. You’re always looking for a smarter way to do something, and you don’t make the same mistake twice. When we get feedback on a proposal, you ensure we learn and grow from every last bit of it.
You are an expert-level cat-herder. You’re comfortable taking charge of the proposal process, which includes confidently managing up. You aren't afraid to firmly (but kindly!) ask for what you need, when you need it. You block off time on collaborators' calendars and ensure everyone hits their deadlines, so you can hit yours.
Feedback is your favorite. You know some discussions are hard, but having a hard discussion is much better than not having one at all. You deliver and expect open, candid and respectful feedback, all day, every day.
You are fiercely autonomous. You don't wait around for someone to tell you what to do next. You are a self-starter who excels at working independently with little to no oversight, anticipating the team's needs before they even have to ask.
You identify with our mission. You have a love of kids and a dedication to making them successful.
Selection Process
We want to be totally transparent about how we hire, so you aren’t left guessing. Here’s exactly what happens when you apply to work with us at Forthright:
Application Form: We leave our application open for a full month. Also, please skip the cover letter. We mean it!
A 15-Minute Task: We'll review all of our applications on a rolling basis and reach out to the most promising candidates with a short exercise. It should take 15 minutes, tops. We’d much rather you spend the time you would have spent creating a cover letter simply showing us what you can do here. If you meet the requirements of the exercise, you officially make our interview shortlist.
Chatting with Niki (VP of Marketing and New Business): We’ll select about 15 people from that shortlist for a “getting to know you” video call with Niki Juhasz.
Chatting with Katie (CEO): From there, we'll narrow things down to about eight finalists who will meet with our Founder for a final conversation.
Paid Task: We'll want to see you in action – so we'll give you a portion of a real proposal we're creating and pay you a project fee to help us create our submission. We are looking to assess the quality of your work and how quickly you can adapt to our existing process.
Getting to Work: That’s it for the selection process! Our goal is to bring on at least four contractors, get you onboarded, and start assigning actual proposal work to you right away. (We do lead a robust onboarding process so you have what you need to succeed!)
Location
All roles at Forthright are permanently 100 percent remote, and the contractor can live anywhere in the United States. Contractors must have the availability and willingness to work during Forthright’s business hours (8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. EST).
Compensation
Hours & Rate: We typically pay $175 per proposal. On average, we spend between 3-7 hours per proposal. We have an AI tool set up to help write our proposals, in addition to a designed template! You’ll never start a proposal from complete scratch.
We consider contractors for contracts on the basis of merit, qualifications, and business needs and without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, age, disability, alienage or citizenship status, ancestry, marital status, creed, genetic predisposition or carrier status, sexual orientation, veteran status, familial status, status as a survivor of domestic violence, or any other status or characteristic protected by applicable federal, state, or local law.
Chief External Affairs Officer
Corporate Energy Buyers Association (CEBA)
Hybrid (Washington, DC)
Hybrid (Washington, DC)
Corporate Energy Buyers Association (CEBA)
Date Posted: 8/10/2026
Chaloner has partnered with the Corporate Energy Buyers Association on their search for a Chief External Affairs Officer.
About CEBA
The Corporate Energy Buyers Association (c6) is a business association with a mission to activate energy buyers and their partners to drive low-cost, reliable, carbon-free global energy systems.
The Clean Energy Buyers Institute (c3) is the affiliated public benefit charity that advances low-cost, reliable, carbon-emissions free global energy systems. The c6 and c3, collectively “CEBA,” is an inclusive community of energy buyers, clean energy providers, service providers, NGOs, philanthropies, and clean energy thought leaders.
Position Overview
The Chief External Affairs Officer (CEAO) is a C-suite executive and member of CEBA's Executive Leadership Team (ELT), reporting directly to the CEO and working alongside the Chief Business Officer, SVP for Policy, SVP for Energy Transactions, and SVP for Global Programs. The CEAO leads three interconnected functions, Communications, Government Affairs, and Development, across CEBA.
The CEAO is the architect and steward of CEBA's external voice and market position, its political strategy, and its philanthropic and corporate partnership growth. At a moment of historic opportunity, with explosive growth in energy demand placing the customer voice, represented by CEBA's 330+ member companies representing more than $40 trillion in market value, at the center of the global energy conversation, the CEAO will position CEBA to lead that conversation: shaping policy outcomes through credible bipartisan engagement, building the brand as the preeminent voice of energy buyers, and significantly growing the philanthropic and corporate partnership base that fuels CEBA's mission driven work.
The CEAO will collaborate closely with the CEO and the rest of the ELT to drive strategy, execute against short and long term objectives, and define and meet metrics of impact. The role includes substantive engagement with the c3 and c6 Boards of Directors, the key CEBA members, and the senior leadership of CEBA member companies. The CEAO will also serve as a strong people manager, building and leading a high-performing team while fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability.
The Role
The CEAO owns three interconnected functions, Communications, Government Affairs, and Development, and is personally accountable for CEBA's brand, its political capital, and its philanthropic growth trajectory. The CEAO leads a team that includes the VP for Government Affairs, the Director for Development, and senior leadership across Events, Marketing, and Communications with that structure to be finalized in consultation with the CEO and CBO. The CEAO's leadership spans the ELT and Boards, as well as each of CEBA's three functional pillars.
Executive Leadership and Organizational Stewardship
Contribute as a full ELT member to organization-wide decisions on strategy, budget, personnel and culture, not only within External Affairs.
Set the strategic agenda, budget, and resourcing for External Affairs, and hold the function accountable to clear metrics of political, reputational, and financial impact.
Build, develop, and retain a high-performing leadership team across Communications, Government Affairs, and Development.
Serve as a primary point of engagement for the c3 and c6 Boards and leader-members, ensuring they have real insight into CEBA's external posture and the political and philanthropic landscape.
The pillars below define what the CEAO will lead across the ELT, the Boards, and each of these functions.
Voice and Market Position (Communications)
Own CEBA's brand and market position as the preeminent voice of the energy buyer, setting the strategy and overseeing the execution and delivery of the strategic priorities as it relates to the Government Affairs and Development narratives. Continue to build the CEO's external platform while establishing the CEAO as a credible, visible spokesperson for CEBA in their own right. Represent CEBA to national and trade press, at flagship convenings such as Summit and Leadership Event, and at venues like CERAWeek, NYCW, and potentially the World Economic Forum.
Oversee the strategy for owned, earned, and paid media, digital and social presence, and member-facing communications, delegating execution to a strong communications team while retaining editorial judgment on anything with reputational or political significance.
Political Strategy and Government Affairs
Own CEBA's political capital: relationships with federal and state legislators, Administration officials, and governors, and CEBA's overall policymaker engagement strategy, set jointly with the SVP for Policy, SVP for Energy Transactions, and SVP for Global Programs.
Build and personally lead a credible, durable, bipartisan government affairs operation, engaging directly at the moments that matter most, including with the Administration, newly elected members of Congress, and state and local officials, while delegating day-to-day leadership and execution to the VP for Government Affairs.
Guide and support CEBA's political engagement strategy, including collaboration with the CEBA PAC and relationships with party committees, and build coalitions with member companies and allied trade associations to advance shared policy objectives.
Philanthropic and Corporate Growth
Hold primary accountability for the c3's philanthropic revenue trajectory, sustaining roughly 20% year-over-year growth from a current base of approximately $12M, with a goal of roughly doubling that base by year-end 2029.
Personally cultivate and close principal-level gifts ($1M+) and partnerships across the c3 landscape including but not limited to institutional philanthropy, ultra-high-net-worth donors, and corporate philanthropy, while building the team and pipeline needed to sustain growth at scale.
Partner with the CEO and Boards to convert their networks into warm introductions and high-leverage asks, and lead the corporate partnership growth beyond core membership dues.
Build development team capacity beyond its current single director role, and put in place the stewardship infrastructure, donor narratives, and reporting needed to support a growing and increasingly sophisticated funder base.
What We're Looking For
At least 20+ years of progressively senior experience across some combination of strategic communications, brand and marketing, institutional fundraising and government affairs including significant C-suite or comparable executive leadership.
A demonstrated track record of building and leading high-performing teams across multiple disciplines, and of stepping in personally when the situation demands it.
Substantial direct federal legislative experience, or comparable policy-driving experience off the Hill, or senior corporate government affairs or trade association leadership in the energy sector, with the credibility to lead a bipartisan government affairs operation.
Deep expertise in at least two pillars: Communications, Government Affairs, and Development, credible judgment in the third, and a track record of hiring strong functional leaders to close any remaining gap.
A track record of building or significantly growing a philanthropic or corporate development function, ideally including direct ownership of multi-million-dollar fundraising goals and principal-gift solicitation.
Genuine subject matter engagement in energy, climate, sustainability, cleantech, utility engagement, corporate procurement, or related policy and markets.
An influential, credible professional network, ideally within clean energy, climate, energy policy, or related philanthropic and corporate communities.
Superior executive-level written and verbal communication, with the presence and credibility to represent CEBA to Members of Congress, governors, CEOs, foundation principals, and the press.
Practical Considerations
Eligible to work in the United States.
Ability and willingness to work nontraditional hours and travel up to 30% of the time.
Based in the DC office at least three days per week.
Compensation and Benefits
CEBA offers competitive executive-level compensation and a comprehensive bonus and benefits package, including eligibility for CEBA's annual bonus and incentive plan based on both organizational and individual performance. The base salary range for this role is $450,000-$600,000. CEBA is committed to supporting employees in having a full life inside and outside of work.
Equal Opportunity Employer
CEBA is an equal opportunity employer and provides equal employment opportunities to all qualified individuals without regard to race, color, ancestry, national origin, gender, pregnancy, sexual orientation, marital status, religion, age, disability, gender identity, gender expression, results of genetic testing, caregiver status, military service status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state, or local law.

Communications and Development Coordinator, Communications and Programs Team
The Center for Effective Philanthropy
Hybrid (Cambridge, MA)
Hybrid (Cambridge, MA)
The Center for Effective Philanthropy
Date Posted: 7/31/2026
Position Overview
The Center for Effective Philanthropy (CEP) seeks a Communications and Development Coordinator to join the Communications and Programs (C&P) team. This full-time role supports two connected areas of CEP’s external-facing work: the day-to-day production and publication of CEP’s communications and marketing content — including our widely read blog, email marketing, and social media — and the operations of CEP’s development function, including drafting grant proposals, funder communications, and maintaining key development records.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career writer who wants hands-on experience across the full life cycle of nonprofit communications and fundraising. The Coordinator will work closely with, and take direction from, CEP’s Senior Writer, Editor, and Content Strategist on communications work and CEP’s Associate Manager, Communications and Programs on development work, and will report to the Director, Communications and Programs.
Key Responsibilities
We anticipate the balance of work to be approximately 60 percent communications, 30 percent development, and 10 percent broader team support. This balance may shift over time as priorities and team needs evolve.
Communications
Blog production support: Working closely with the Senior Writer and Editor, manage the blog pipeline, including managing a dedicated blog inbox and responding to inquiries and submissions; communicating with guest authors to coordinate publication times and set expectations; and executing publication and distribution of finalized posts.
Copyediting: Provide careful final copyedits on blog posts and other content, applying CEP’s style guide.
Email marketing support: Draft marketing emails such as newsletters, programs marketing, and one-off announcements based on strategy set by the team; build emails in Mailchimp; run the QA process; finalize and send.
Social media: Maintain and manage CEP’s posting schedule and calendar; post new blog and research content; elevate relevant partner content; and monitor accounts, engaging with and flagging comments as appropriate.
Research dissemination support: Support launch communications for new CEP research, including media kits, launch-day email blasts, social media campaigns, and webpage content.
Annual Report: Support drafting and production of CEP’s annual report, including drafting sections, copyediting, and coordinating content and feedback across teams.
Analytics support: Help track blog, email, and social media performance, and support reporting on engagement trends that inform CEP’s content strategy.
Development
Funder stewardship: Draft funder acknowledgments and thank-you letters and other stewardship communications.
Development data management: Perform development-related data entry and maintain accurate funder and grant records in Salesforce, including gift entry, contact updates, and proposal and deadline tracking.
Development operations: Provide additional support to the development function as needed, such as preparing materials for funder meetings and tracking upcoming deliverables.
Grant writing support: Draft grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and funder reports in collaboration with the Associate Manager, Communications and Programs.

We believe our employees should reflect the rich diversity of the global populations we aim to serve. We provide an exceptional benefits package to employees and their families which includes comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with no premiums, generous paid time off, paid family leave, foundation-paid retirement contribution, regional holidays, and opportunities to engage in several employee communities. As a workplace, we’re committed to creating an environment for you to thrive both personally and professionally.
The Team
The USP Communications team operates as a cross-cutting function in service of the U.S. Program division’s mission to ensure that people navigating U.S. education systems and job markets can develop the knowledge, skills, and agency needed to thrive in their communities — such that race, ethnicity, gender, and socioeconomic status are no longer predictors of educational attainment and economic mobility. The team advances this mission by shaping the public narrative, building field understanding, and expanding the messenger network around USP’s programmatic and policy priorities. In a rapidly evolving information environment — where media landscapes are fragmenting, AI tools are reshaping content production, and the demand for credible institutional voices is intensifying — the team brings together earned media, digital communications, and strategic voice capabilities to translate complex investment strategies into compelling, accessible content for policymakers, practitioners, grantees, and the broader field.
Your Role
You are responsible for leading proactive and reactive media engagement on behalf of the U.S. Program, building and sustaining relationships with reporters and influential voices across the education and technology media landscape, and developing and implementing earned media strategies that advance USP’s programmatic and policy priorities. You also serve as the primary lead for USP President voice activities — identifying and staffing conference appearances and learning trips, developing public remarks, creating written content for blogs, op-eds, and social media, and supporting leadership across the U.S. Leadership Team in their external communications. You bring mastery-level expertise in earned media, executive communications, and public affairs, with a strong understanding of the U.S. education field and the media dynamics shaping it.
What You’ll Do
Lead proactive and reactive media engagement for USP, coordinating with the foundation’s central Communications division on media inquiries and developing pitches that advance USP’s strategic priorities across trade, political, best-in-class, and local media outlets.
Build and sustain relationships with reporters, editors, and influential voices covering education, workforce, and technology — cultivating a media network that expands USP’s reach and credibility over time.
Develop and implement earned media strategies for USP announcements, research releases, and field moments, translating sophisticated programmatic content into compelling narratives for diverse public audiences.
Lead USP President voice activities, including identifying and staffing conference appearances and learning trips, developing public remarks, creating written content such as blog posts, op-eds, and social media content, and leading the editorial process for USP leadership’s public-facing communications.
Provide voice support for the USP Chief of Staff and U.S. Leadership Team, including content development for LinkedIn channels, briefing materials, and preparation for media and public appearances.
Provide media training and strategic communications counsel to USP colleagues preparing for interviews, public speaking engagements, or other external visibility opportunities.
Lead media analysis work for USP, establishing earned media goals and benchmarks, tracking coverage trends, and synthesizing insights to advise communications strategy and report progress to leadership.
Maintain and grow USP’s network of champions — working with colleagues to identify practitioners, researchers, and advocates whose voices amplify USP’s priorities — tracking engagements and identifying opportunities to deploy them strategically across media channels and public venues.
Own the USP grantee communications inbox, monitor for potential reputational risks, and take action or escalate as appropriate in coordination with team leadership and the central Communications division.
Own the USP daily clips process, including curation, synthesis, and distribution of relevant media coverage to USP leadership and colleagues, applying a clear and influential communication lens to make the information actionable.
Coordinate and align with the foundation’s central Communications division to ensure USP media engagement is consistent with foundation-wide brand standards and communications strategy.
Support inclusive culture through modeling behaviors and actions; escalate issues in a timely fashion to appropriate stakeholders.
Your Experience
An advanced degree or equivalent proven experience.
Significant experience in public relations, earned media, or strategic communications, with a track record of successfully placing stories and leading media relationships across a range of publication types, including trade outlets, political media, and premier national outlets.
Significant experience developing and leading executive-level communications, including preparing public remarks, briefing materials, and staffing principals for media interviews and public appearances.
Extensive knowledge of the U.S. education landscape, including salient policy issues, influential media storylines, and key audiences such as district and state leaders, higher education institutional leaders, and federal policymakers.
Significant experience designing and implementing earned media strategies for complex organizations, including running proactive pitches, reactive media inquiries, and reputational risk communications.
Experience leading communications agencies and vendors, including contract management and oversight of deliverables.
Deep knowledge of media analysis methods and tools, including establishing benchmarks, tracking coverage trends, and translating insights into actionable communications strategy.
Experience working in a matrixed environment and coordinating cross-functionally with internal and external partners to align on messaging, strategy, and priorities.
Must have unrestricted work authorization in the country where this position is located. The Foundation does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
Salary
The salary range for this role is $173,000 to $259,600 USD. The Foundation recognizes high-wage market differences in Seattle and Washington, D.C., where its offices are located; the range for this role in these locations is $190,000 to $285,500 USD. New hires’ salaries are typically between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint. Actual placement in the range will depend on a candidate’s job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as evaluated during the interview process.
Hiring Requirements
As part of the standard hiring process for new employees, employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a background check.

ABOUT NWHF
NWHF's mission is to advance, support and promote health for people in Oregon and SW Washington. Recognizing race as the largest factor of bias, NWHF supports Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color (BIPOC) in Oregon and SW Washington to build the power, leadership, and relationships needed to shape decisions that affect their daily lives, to hold elected office and sit at decision-making tables, and to champion disability justice. When BIPOC communities have power, they can change systems and institutions to repair historic and current wrongs and create a future where everyone and every community thrives.
NWHF advances our mission by funding organizations rooted in BIPOC communities, investing in power-building infrastructure, providing capacity and skill building, and advocating for policy change.
NWHF's staff and board are a dynamic team with a wide range of identities and lived experiences that makes our organization stronger, smarter and more effective. Our staff actively participate in our community, including serving on boards, raising families and otherwise working to make our region a better place outside the workday. We are governed by engaged and thoughtful boards of directors.
NWHF is committed to an equitable and inclusive workplace and we provide equal employment opportunities to all applicants regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, age, veteran status, sexual orientation, sex, gender, disability, genetic information, military service, marital status or parental status. We strongly encourage candidates from Black, Native American/Indigenous and other communities of color, immigrant, refugee, bilingual, and multicultural individuals; d/Deaf people and people with disabilities; LGBTQIA+ and gender expansive people; and people with other diverse backgrounds and lived experiences to apply.
