Senior Account Executive
Remote

The work
American public life is more divided than it has been in generations. A growing field of foundations, researchers, and practitioners is working to change that — building trust across lines of difference, strengthening civic institutions, and helping people find common ground with those they disagree with.
Miller Ink helps them get heard.
We’re hiring a Senior Account Executive to lead client work in this space. You’ll help position advocates, researchers, and changemakers whose work depends on being credible to audiences across the political spectrum — which makes this some of the most demanding and most interesting communications work in the field. Pitching a story that lands equally well with a progressive outlet and a conservative one is genuinely hard. If that challenge appeals to you, keep reading.
You’ll also work across Miller Ink’s broader portfolio, which spans crisis communications, public affairs, technology, real estate, and nonprofits.
What you’ll do
Strategy. Build and execute communications strategies across earned and owned media. Track what’s working, refine what isn’t, and spot opportunities as they emerge.
Writing. Draft and edit op-eds, pitches, press releases, talking points, blogs, and social content. Strong writing is the center of this job, not a side requirement.
Media. Develop real relationships with reporters and build media strategies that reflect how coverage actually happens.
Client leadership. Serve as a primary point of contact — setting expectations, managing timelines, and steering account teams toward work that exceeds what clients thought they were getting.
Team leadership. Mentor junior colleagues, give feedback that makes them better, and coordinate designers, vendors, and outside partners on integrated campaigns.
Who we’re looking for
You have at least five years of professional experience in communications, public relations, journalism, government, political campaigns, or a related field, plus a bachelor’s degree.
You’re an exceptional writer. This is the requirement we bend on least. We’ll ask for samples.
You can write to people who don’t already agree with you. Much of our work only succeeds if it reaches across divides. Comfort operating outside a single political register is essential.
You’re organized and accountable. You manage several projects at once, you hit deadlines, and details don’t slip past you.
You’re good with people. Clients, colleagues, reporters, and junior staff all need to want to work with you.
You’ve managed or mentored others — or you’re ready to. If you’ve supervised junior staff, great. If you’re a journalist or in-house communicator who hasn’t yet had direct reports but has the instincts and wants to build the skill, we’re interested. Tell us how you think about it.
Crisis communications experience is a plus but not required.
A note for people coming from adjacent fields
Some of our strongest colleagues arrived from newsrooms, Capitol Hill, campaigns, and nonprofit communications teams rather than from agencies. If you’ve spent years covering civic life, faith, or polarization as a reporter, or running communications inside a mission-driven organization, you may be a better fit for this role than your résumé suggests. Apply.
