Archstone Foundation

Date Posted: 10/19/2026

Archstone Foundation is seeking an experienced, strategic, and collaborative Communications & Events Director to lead the Foundation’s communications, engagement, and convenings.

Archstone Foundation works to improve health and social care for all older adults in California, partnering with communities to catalyze equitable change in health and social care systems. Justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion are integral to how the Foundation approaches this work.

Reporting to the President & CEO, the Communications & Events Director will guide how the Foundation communicates its priorities, learning, and impact, grounded in the work of its grantees and partners, and will lead its annual signature conference. An equal partner to the program team, this role requires strategic judgment, a strong and consistent voice, and the ability to share the stories of older adults and their communities with accuracy and respect. The Director will develop communications and convenings that advance equitable aging, health equity, and social justice, while centering the experiences and leadership of older adults and communities most affected by inequities.

What You’ll Do

Lead Communications Strategy & Voice

The Communications & Events Director will:

  • Partner with the CEO to shape the Foundation’s communications strategy and lead the plan that carries it out.

  • Establish and steward a unified Archstone voice and brand across staff, channels, and partners.

  • Advise the CEO on communications opportunities and the Foundation’s public positioning.

Share the Work of the Foundation and Its Partners

The Communications & Events Director will:

  • Manage the Foundation’s website, social media, email, and other outreach channels, and serve as the point of contact for media inquiries.

  • Partner with the program team to communicate the work of every program area, including grantee stories, learning, and impact.

  • Ensure communications are accessible and inclusive, reflecting the diversity of the older adults and communities the Foundation serves.

Lead the Signature Conference & Events

The Communications & Events Director will:

  • Lead the Foundation’s annual signature conference, including its themes, content, program design, and speakers.

  • Lead other Foundation convenings and events, as determined with the CEO.

  • Select and manage external communications and event partners, and manage the communications and conference budgets.

What We’re Looking For

The strongest candidates will be strategic communicators and skilled writers and editors, able to shape a consistent voice and adapt it for different audiences and channels. They will bring strong project management skills, including experience leading large, multi-partner events from concept through delivery; the ability to collaborate across an organization, balance competing requests, and direct external partners with clarity; and a passion for improving the lives of older adults. They should be comfortable working independently in a remote environment and using website content management, social media, email, analytics, and design tools, as well as Microsoft Office 365.

Candidates should have at least seven years of communications experience, including strategic communications, brand, and digital channels, or equivalent capability demonstrated through other roles or lived experience, along with experience leading conferences or major events.

This role calls for a demonstrated commitment to equitable aging, health equity, and social justice, and the ability to communicate these issues thoughtfully to varied audiences.

Demonstrated experience in aging, health equity, social justice, or a related field is strongly preferred, whether gained through communications, advocacy, organizing, public health, or community-based work. Experience in philanthropy, nonprofits, or public policy is also a plus. No specific degree is required; relevant education, training, or equivalent experience is welcome.
