Communicating Values in Volatile Times: MIND THE GAP
How do we address the gap between nonprofits and foundations?
Communicating Values in Volatile Times: MIND THE GAP
Foundations and nonprofits are navigating an increasingly volatile environment and determining how best to connect with audiences and maintain commitments to serving the public good. Despite the many values we hold in common and the staggering need for our services, the gap between nonprofits and foundations is widening.
ComNetwork SF Bay Area, a local chapter of the Communications Network, is gathering foundation and nonprofit leaders to share how mission-driven leaders working in communications are approaching their messaging and building resilience when the principles and people fundamental to social change work are under attack.
We invite you to join us for "Mind the Gap," the third event in our Communicating Values in Volatile Times series in San Francisco on April 16, 2026 from 2:30 – 4:00 pm, with an informal reception afterwards from 4:00 – 5:00 pm. The first part of the event will feature a conversation between Dwayne Marsh, President and CEO of Northern California Grantmakers (NCG), Glen Galaich, CEO of the Stupski Foundation, and Seara Grundhoefer, Senior Analyst for Research at the Center for Effective Philanthropy (CEP).
CEP recently released a report called A Sector in Crisis identifying the startling gap between what nonprofit organizations say they need during these times and how foundations think about their role in helping nonprofits to navigate this moment. The speakers will briefly discuss the report’s findings, their perspectives on what is happening in the field, and what they are hearing and seeing from their respective partners and members. Their remarks will be followed by discussion of how foundations and nonprofits are communicating their values, and participants will delve into possibilities for greater alignment within the social sector.
This event is organized by Regan Douglass of Sparkwise Communications and Minna Jung of RALLY. It is hosted by RALLY, the Stupski Foundation, and ComNetwork SF Bay Area, serving hundreds of professionals using the power of communications to advance positive change in the world. It is free to attend, and attendees do not need to be members of The Communications Network.
