ComNetworkPORTLAND Skate Night

Join cause communicators from across the metro region as we lace up our roller skates and lift each other up.

ComNetworkPORTLAND is organizing a night of movement, connection and good ol' fashioned fun at Oaks Park Skating Rink. Grab your admission and join us at a dedicated table in the cafe from 8:00 – 8:45 p.m. for brief remarks and mini cupcakes. Networking and skating will continue throughout the night in the cafe and adjoining bleachers. Look for the ComNetworkLOCAL T-shirts and say hello to our planning committee around the rink.

This evening is an invitation to experience joy as a practice of connection and collective care. As Adrienne Maree Brown writes, “Feeling good is not frivolous. It is freedom.”

There is something powerful about stepping onto the rink, moving your body to the music and making the experience your own. This is why roller skating has become known as a space for self-expression, community and liberation — largely shaped by Black and LGBTQ+ communities.

If you're a novice, no worries. The skating community, just like our community of communicators, comes together, no matter what form or style you bring. Whether you glide, wobble, or fall, you can be sure to find someone ready with a hand to help you out.

That's just how this network rolls (see what we did there?).

So, bring your people. Find your rhythm. Take a lap. Make a new connection. And if you happen to fall, we’ve got you.

Your Hosts

This opportunity for networking and learning is hosted by a volunteer committee representing the ComNetworkPORTLAND LOCAL chapter of the Communications Network.

Oaks Park Roller Rink Info

Click here to find all the details about the roller rink. You must purchase admission to skate ($13/+$1 skate rentals). This can be done on site upon arrival or at oakspark.com/rinktix. You can also save time by filling out the mandatory safety waiver in advance at oakspark.com/waiver.

No Solicitation Policy

We ask everyone attending our events to observe The Communications Network’s No Solicitation Policy. It’s a pretty simple list of DOs and DON’Ts that help us build an inclusive and comfortable community for everyone.

The Legal Fine Print

By registering, I understand that Skate Night is a voluntary social gathering and that roller skating carries inherent risks, including falls, collisions, and injury. The rink, skates, and safety rules are operated by Oaks Amusement Park, which requires its own separate waiver. I'm participating at my own risk and won't hold The Communications Network, ComNetworkPDX, or their volunteer leaders responsible for injury or loss arising from my participation—except for gross negligence, recklessness, or intentional misconduct. If I'm registering someone under 18, I'm their parent or guardian, I agree on their behalf, and I'll be with them at the venue.
