ComNetworkDC: More Than a Number: Communicating about Data

People won’t use information they don’t trust—and between misinformation, disinformation, fake news, and declining trust in government institutions, it’s hard to know what data is trustworthy and where to find it. But communicating about data without understanding how to do so effectively leads to mistrust, misuse, fear, and backlash—ultimately setting back attempts to move policies forward. Communicators must be equipped with the tools to effectively communicate about data in ways that build trust. This workshop will help communicators feel confident in how they communicate about data and build public support for their work. Attendees will learn techniques to build trust and work in small groups to practice those techniques together.
