Craig Ziegler

Vice President of Finance, Administration, and Investments California Health Care Foundation

Craig Ziegler has served as the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer of the California HealthCare Foundation —an independent philanthropic organization with approximately $1 billion in assets, since January 1997. As a member of the senior management team, Mr. Ziegler oversees the Foundation’s investment, accounting, administrative, and technology functions.

Through Mr. Ziegler’s leadership, the California HealthCare Foundation was an early nonprofit adopter of the core principles of Sarbanes Oxley. Mr. Ziegler served on the Panel on the Nonprofit Sector workgroups, including the one focused on transparency and financial accountability. Mr. Ziegler currently serves on the executive committee of the Foundation Financial Officers Group (FFOG), a nonprofit membership organization with members from the largest foundations in the United States. Mr. Ziegler is founder of FFOG’s Reporting Standards Committee, a group working with the IRS, Independent Sector, and others to reform the current 990 and 990PF tax forms. Mr. Ziegler also serves as chair of FFOG’s Communications Committee, and is a member of an independent advisory panel overseeing a jointly funded project to study foundation expenses and compensation practices.

Prior to joining the California HealthCare Foundation, Mr. Ziegler spent 11 years as Director of Finance and Operations of Joint Venture: Silicon Valley Network, a regional nonprofit economic development corporation, and as the controller of the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, a large private foundation. He began his career in the banking and consulting industries, working in California and Massachusetts.

Mr. Ziegler has an MBA, with an emphasis in finance, from Golden Gate University and a BS in Business/Accounting from San Diego State University.
