Generations United is seeking a Digital Communications Coordinator to join our results-oriented team. 

Description: 

Generations United is the national nonprofit that promotes and strengthens practices and policies to benefit all  generations. The Digital Communications Coordinator is part of a results-oriented team and is responsible for  coordinating and creating key digital communications activities for Generations United, including social media,  email marketing, website(s), and cross-platform analytics and reporting. This position is an integral member of  the Communications Team and collaborates within and across all departments to fulfill organizational goals and  milestones. Specifically, the Digital Communications Coordinator works to increase social media audience  engagement and growth, email communications, and web traffic. This individual keeps abreast of trends and  implements compelling digital communications initiatives to diverse audiences. Together with the  Communications team, they coordinate and support the digital presence of Generations United. The ideal  candidate will bring energy and initiative to this position, helping to identify high-impact opportunities to  increase the visibility of our initiatives, services, and policy/advocacy work.  

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities include: 

Social Media 

  • Coordinate with team to ensure that the organization’s social media channels remain responsive,  innovative, collaborative, and engaging. 
  • Write engaging copy and schedule social media posts. 
  • Create and implement strategies to increase the number of fans/followers and to increase audience  engagement on social media platforms. 
  • Execute on the social media communications plan and coordinate the organization’s presence on all  social media platforms (Including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Medium, YouTube) by  responding to comments and messages and engaging with influencers. 
  • Coordinate efforts to gather staff input to inform communications through weekly meetings,  management of communications channels in Microsoft Teams, and maintaining the shared  communications calendar. 
  • Contribute to the development of thoughtful and engaging content strategy. 
  • As needed, support efforts to evaluate when social channels should be retired and/or when new  channels should be explored. 

Email Marketing 

  • Coordinate, edit, build, and distribute outbound email campaigns to support programs and initiatives,  including Generations This Week, our primary weekly e-newsletter, other newsletters, advocacy alerts,  and event promotions. 
  • Create and implement lead generation strategies to increase our subscriber base. 
  • Support routine maintenance and cleanup of email list.

Website 

  • Publish, edit, and update website pages through the use of a CMS. 
  • Ensure website content and online postings are accurate and up to date. 
  • Ensure quality of web pages by formatting, copyediting, proofreading, ensuring consistent style and  brand voice. 
  • Coordinate content placements across our web properties. 
  • Troubleshoot issues that arise with the performance of the website(s) and coordinate with developers  and hosting providers. 
  • Collect and review web utilization data; monitor analytics and make recommendations for improved  performance. 
  • Support content contributors on formatting and publishing to the web. 

Reporting 

  • Track and provide reports and analytics on web and conversion metrics. 
  • Contribute to the preparation of regular and campaign-specific reports on website and digital  communications performance. 

Other Responsibilities: 

  • Actively apply a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) lens to all aspects of the work including through the  use of the Racial Equity Impact Analysis tool. 
  • Collaborate across Generations United, participate in cross-team working groups, and work effectively  with communications, internal operations, intergenerational programs, and grandfamilies teams. 
  • Proactively monitor media and make suggestions for social media, weekly GTW newsletter, and other  external communications  
  • Assist with organization-wide events  
  • Other duties as assigned 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree or related experience in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or  related field preferred. 
  • At least one year of relevant experience in a communications role for a nonprofit organization, public  relations firm, association, or government agency. 
  • Interest in intergenerational communications and/or aging, family, youth and children’s issues,  including DEI, with experience in those issues preferred. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt interpersonal and  communication style to interact effectively with a wide variety of people and generate well-written copy  under tight deadlines. 
  • High level of motivation, and initiative. 
  • Strong people skills and ability to work effectively under pressure in both a team setting and  individually. 
  • Flexible, resourceful, attentive to detail and highly organized with ability to multi-task 
  • Creative thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. 
  • Excellent organization, communication, and customer service skills. 
  • Hands-on knowledge using major social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram) in a  professional setting.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power  Point). 
  • Experience with graphic design and Canva preferred. 
  • Experience using content management systems preferred and experience with HTML and CSS a plus. 
  • Experience in Google Analytics; working knowledge of the principles of SEO a plus 
  • Strong professional ethics and commitment to DEI. 
  • Support of Generations United’s mission. 
  • Ability to work independently in fast-paced office environment, some flexible hours and travel may  be required. 
  • Ability to work in the Washington, DC headquarters office is strongly preferred – the  office is currently open with hybrid and remote work flexibility.

The employee is expected to use a handcart, move, or lift heavy items  up to twenty-five pounds. Running errands on foot is occasionally required. The vision requirement  includes close vision. 

Classification: Exempt 

Status: Full-time 

Reports To: Director, Strategic Initiatives & Communications  

Salary: $49,000 – 54,000 annually based on experience, with excellent benefits
