Our Mission

FEEST’s mission is to set the table for young people to transform the health and equity of their communities by gathering around food and working toward systemic change.

FEEST (Food Empowerment Education & Sustainability Team) is an organization led by youth of color in South Seattle and South King County working to improve health in their schools. We believe that systemic change is necessary for young people’s mental and physical wellbeing. Focusing on the need for more healthy, affordable, and culturally relevant food at school, FEEST centers young people as powerful leaders for health justice.

Primary Job Responsibilities

FEEST is searching for an experienced Communications & Development Manager to join our team. The goal of this position is to tell FEEST’s story in a way that inspires others to join our movement for health justice in schools. This person will utilize traditional and digital media channels to cultivate a strong multigenerational base of supporters, volunteers, donors, community partners, activists for the organization. The position will work closely with both the Development Director and Organizing Director.

Communications // Powerful Storytelling (50%)

  • Develop and implement strategic communications plan to tell the FEEST story
  • Collect and elevate youth stories; and facilitate youth-driven storytelling on all media channels
  • Own content for newsletters, social media, website, print materials, video, and media
  • Manage content and design of WordPress website
  • Design graphic materials for print and web using Canva and Adobe Suite
  • Monitor analytics for all channels and adjust strategy as needed
  • Collaborate with Directors to write and design the annual report and other publications
  • Collaborate with Development Director to create materials for fundraising campaigns
  • Pitch stories and manage relationships with news media and other third party storytellers
  • Manage contractors for photography and video production

Donor and Community Engagement // Base Building (25%)

  • Lead community education initiatives to spread FEEST’s values and political analysis of systemic oppression
  • Recruit and manage volunteers to support program needs
  • Support Development Director to increase donor base and keep donors engaged
  • Support planning of fundraisers and community events
  • Develop toolkits and train Board, youth, and other community members to be ambassadors for the organization
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with community partners, donors, volunteers, and other supporters
  • Represent FEEST at meetings and events as needed
  • Support management of volunteer and donor database
  • Maintain a structure for gathering community input and feedback to integrate into our work

Program Collaboration // Digital Campaigns (25%)

  • Collaborate with program team to mobilize community members through online campaigns
  • Coordinate with program staff and youth leaders to develop strategic narratives
  • Support program team with outreach needs for youth programs
  • Work with program team to develop political education programs

Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge and experience with strategic communications, especially in a nonprofit environment
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills across written and visual media
  • Ability to write for an intergenerational audience including youth and young adults
  • Experience using social media and email marketing for fundraising and community organizing
  • Experience managing Instagram and Facebook accounts for a nonprofit or business
  • Experience managing a WordPress or similar website
  • Strong analytical skills; experience with research and data analysis
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and self-direct to meet strict deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Unapologetically rooted in social justice, equity and committed to apply racial, gender and economic justice lenses in both personal and workplace context
  • Lived experience or demonstrated professional skills working with racially and economically diverse individuals and communities, including working class, immigrant/refugees, communities of color, and LGBTQ+ populations
  • Fundraising experience, particularly grassroots or community-centric fundraising, is a plus
  • Experience pitching to and managing relationships with news media is a plus

Additional Information

  • Salary range: $53,000 – $58,000
