How do you make your organization stand out so that people know it for its sterling reputation, quality work, and outstanding commitment to serving key publics or constituencies?  To help answer that question, CommunicationWorks, LLC, a Washington, DC-based communications consulting firm, interviewed leaders of nine exemplary institutions representing a range of geographic locations and fields, including culture, politics, journalism, scientific research, among others.  Among their findings about what makes an organization a “cultural gem” is recognizing that the organization has “something very precious to share” with its community, and then “integrating it, making it meaningful and relevant to the life of that community.”
