ComNetworkNY: Communicating Without Stereotypes: Getting Smart on Gender and Race
*This gathering is intended for communications managers and directors, as well as executive leaders with intensive communications responsibilities, working in either philanthropic organizations or nonprofit organizations. RSVPs are limited.*
What is implicit bias? How do we recognize and confront it? And in these days of #TimesUP, #March4OurLives and #BlackLivesMatter, how does this bias hamper our work as social change communicators?
Activist, author and academic Alexis McGill Johnson says it’s about our brains and that to be truly effective in driving lasting, sustainable change we need to understand how our brains process racial and gender paradoxes.
Join us for a highly interactive conversation and workshop with Alexis and her colleagues from the Perception Institute that will explore the mind science of stereotyping and bias and its impact on our work.
And we invite you to actively participate! Does your organization struggle to talk openly and effectively about race and gender? How can you keep stereotyping and bias from undermining the effectiveness of your communications? Does a lack of diversity in your organization make it tough to message in a truly inclusive way?
Put Alexis and her team in the hot seat with your most pressing concerns and challenges and get concrete tips and guidance on how to navigate today’s complex environments.
The event will begin with some informal networking before the program begins, and then a networking reception after the presentation.
