ComNetworkDETROIT: Explains Email for Nonprofits
Email predates even the internet itself, and yet it remains a critical part of the communications programs of brands, governments, and causes. But why has email endured and thrived while so many other communications tools have come and gone? And what makes email a worthwhile investment of effort and resources for nonprofit communications teams?
At our next monthly meetup, ComNetworkDetroit will host a panel featuring three of our city’s brightest nonprofit communicators discussing the OG of digital communications channels. Moderator Ashley Collins, digital communications officer at the Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan, will be joined by Hailey Dukes of CultureSource and Anthony Martinez of LGBT Detroit to share their email-related experience and answer your questions about the communications tool that has been around so long that it suddenly feels new again.
About the Panelists
Ashley Collins is the Digital Communications Officer for the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan. In this role, Ashley provides support and guidance to all the departments (Program, Finance, and Philanthropic Services) on best practices and strategic ways to use their website, email marketing, social media, and other channels to connect with grantees and encourage philanthropy throughout the region. Outside of work, he likes to watch scary movies with his husband, read Harry Potter to his two daughters, and play tug-o-war with his dogs. If he could, he’d probably live off coffee, chicken nuggets and donuts.
Hailey Dukes is the Communications Manager at CultureSource. Aka Father Dukes to anyone within earshot of her turntables, Hailey has moved through communications roles at Allied Media Projects, Charity USA, and PLAYGROUND DETROIT, along the way gaining fluency messaging in diverse channels and gaining an understanding of the range of creative expression thriving throughout Southeast Michigan. As CultureSource aims “to embrace contemporary culture at its core and edges,” and “to speak respectfully, clearly, and inclusively,” Hailey is well positioned to help the organization live and grow in these two guiding principles.
Anthony Martinez is the Digital Content Coordinator for LGBT Detroit. He works closely with the Executive Director and Program Coordinator creating digital campaigns and marketing material for all events within the non-profit. From social media management to monthly newsletters, Anthony develops content that is recognizable to their mission statement while developing LGBT Detroit’s branding guidelines. Outside of the non-profit sector, he is cofounder of FoxTale Events, a cannabis events company that employs and educates women of color looking for opportunity within the industry. Anthony is also an indoor cycle instructor at Vibe Ride Detroit downtown, where you can catch him spinning to all the latest Trap bops.
