ComNetworkDENVER: Why We Need to Talk About Suicide and Guns
Colorado’s residents are known for being healthy and active—yet our state has one of the highest suicide rates in the country. Firearms are the most lethal method of suicide and account for half of all suicides. But many suicides are impulsive acts that can be prevented, and reducing access to firearms during times of crisis can save lives. Talking about either suicide or firearms can feel difficult, as both are stigmatized and sensitive topics. Dr. Emmy Betz, an emergency physician, associate professor of emergency medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and a nationally recognized researcher, will describe ongoing efforts to have these conversations and raise awareness.
This free talk is co-presented by ComNetworkDENVER and The Colorado Trust. Food, drinks and networking will be available throughout the evening.
