#IamDenver: How the City of Denver is Building Community Through Storytelling
About this Event
Rowena Alegría, chief storyteller for the City and County of Denver, has launched an ambitious effort to build community by giving voice to underrepresented populations. Her team in the Office of Storytelling partners with nonprofits, foundations and businesses to host free storytelling labs throughout the city.
Join us at our October breakfast meetup, hosted by Gary Community Investments, to learn how Alegría successfully advocated for the city to create an Office of Storytelling and how she uses her position to build community and tell the stories that have traditionally been overlooked. Alegría will host a mini storytelling lab to highlight how her process fosters conversation and allows people to tap into their stories. She’ll also share how nonprofits and other agencies can partner with her office.
The street address of Gary Community Investments and The Piton Foundation is 1705 17th Street, Suite 200. However, the offices are physically located in the IMA building at the corner of 18th and Wynkoop Streets, next to Union Station. There are several garages and surface lots in the area. Meter parking is available on Wynkoop Street, but it is limited to two hours. This Google map shows most of the LoDo Parking Options.
