ComNetworkDC: Navigating the Ethics of Strategic Communications
About this Event
Join us on the evening of November 7 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. for a discussion of ethics in strategic communications with Peter Loge, Founder of the Project on Ethics in Political Communications, George Washington University.
As communications professionals we make the case for a greater good. In doing so, we necessarily pick and choose among facts, stories, and storytellers every day. What are the ethical responsibilities that come with our work? Where are the lines that separate positioning, spin, and lying? How do we make sure our communications respect the people and places involved? And how do you tell your colleagues, your boss, or your funder that something they want is crossing those lines? These are some, but surely not all, of the questions we’ll discuss.
Peter’s blend of experience in government, advocacy, and academia offers useful candor, perspectives, and insights for these not-uncommon situations. This will be less of a presentation, and more a discussion with all attendees sharing our experiences, the thorny questions we ask ourselves, and the fraught opportunities we wrestle with on the way to doing good.
A networking reception will follow the discussion.
We look forward to seeing you there!
