Strategic Planning
Building Nonprofit Communications Capacity
"Next to doing the right thing, the most important thing
is to let people know you are doing the right thing."
-- John D.
Rockefeller
The monthly newsletter of Workforce Strategies
Initiative, a project of the Aspen Institute, shares
insights and lessons learned for non-profits interested
in building a stronger, more effective communications
program. The report, written by researchers at the Aspen
Institute, is based on the experiences of six workforce
training programs.
The 16-page publication describes common communications
pitfalls and challenges; outlines the four basic steps
involved in developing effective communications
strategies and discusses the role of market research and
marketing in planning and executing communications
projects. Concrete examples, drawn from the experiences
of the six organizations, are shared throughout the
report.
