The Power and Influence of Online Engagement

According to a new report, the Internet has become the fastest growing way for individuals and organizations to mobilize and take action to support issues and causes quickly and inexpensively. No longer are organizers beholden to phone banks and direct mail to inform and engage activists about public-interest issues.

 

Power to the Edges: Trends and Opportunities in Online Engagement, a new report jointly released by PACE - Philanthropy for Active Civic Engagement and the E-Volve Foundation, examines online civic engagement through four distinct areas: collaboration, communication, content development, and collective action. The report highlights how web technology promotes interactive communication between constituents and organizations, "using email, chat rooms, listservs, cell phone text messaging and instant messaging online."   The report outlines the current state of the field, discussing the changing framework of field organizing and civic engagement.
