Mitch Hurst
Founder
MH Group
Mitch Hurst founded MH Group in 2010, an independent company that helps organizations make wise investments in communications and marketing and adapt to an increasingly complex communications technology environment. His clients include grantmaking foundations, nonprofit organizations, associations, and for-profit companies.
Prior to establishing MH Group, Mitch worked for more than two decades in the nonprofit and private sectors. He spent nearly a decade shaping online communications and social media strategies for the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, one of the nation’s largest philanthropies. While there Mitch helped the foundation become a leader in using new communications technology and platforms for content and data sharing; he also led an effort to align online communications strategies with the foundation’s grantmaking objectives.
Prior to joining Mott Mitch was Vice President, Marketing at Bank of America, where he led a re-branding effort for the bank’s Community Development Banking division as it merged with NationsBank. He also led internal communications strategy, and a team responsible for keeping the bank’s employees apprised of progress toward the new brand and new marketing and advertising strategies.
Mitch began his professional career at the Donors Forum, a state-wide association of grantmakers in Illinois. As Director of Communications, he helped establish a broad communications function at the organization which led to increased membership and visibility for the organization.
Mitch has sat on a number of philanthropic boards and committees and often presents on communications and marketing issues at national and regional conferences.
He lives just outside Chicago with his wife, Susan, and precocious 10-year-old son, Jack.
Mitch is a graduate of Columbia College Chicago.
