Charity Perkins, director of communications for The Duke Endowment, has joined the board of the Communications Network and also has been elected secretary.

Before becoming a director, Perkins served as a volunteer, helping the Network recruit new members.

At The Duke Endowment, which is headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., Perkins is responsible for implementing and maintaining the organization’s communications and public relations programs.

“Charity brings a perfect combination of skill, knowledge, and enthusiasm to our field, and we are so pleased that she will share this with the board of the Communications Network,” said Rebecca Arno, chair, and vice president of communications, The Denver Foundation.

Perkins, who has over 30 years’ experience in the communications field, mainly in the nonprofit sector, has been with the Endowment since June 2006. Before that, she had been vice president of communications at the Foundation For The Carolinas (a community foundation headquartered in Charlotte, N.C.). In earlier years, she headed communications programs for United Way organizations in Charleston, S.C. and Roanoke, Va.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Towson State University and has completed graduate studies in public relations from Shippensburg State University.

In 2011, Perkins was featured in the Communications Network’s “A Quick Word With…” series.
